English vocabulary test
How many English words do you know? Test written word recognition and keep a result with an estimated range.

For each description, choose the matching English word.
Retakes use different words; an in-progress run stays fixed.
What the result measures
The test estimates written receptive vocabulary: English words whose meaning you recognize while reading. It does not measure active vocabulary, speaking, or a CEFR level.
Why retakes use different words
Each new run draws 30 words with the same coverage across ten frequency bands. Once a run begins, its words, order, and method stay fixed through refresh and recovery.
How the estimate works
Correct, incorrect, and explicit “I don’t know” responses are treated differently. The test uses them to calculate an approximate vocabulary size and a range for sampling uncertainty.
