A meal with a friend

Pedimos una mesa fuera. Yo pido sopa y agua sin gas. Mi acompañante no come carne y pregunta por un plato vegetariano. La persona que nos atiende lo consulta con la cocina. Al final, preguntamos si podemos pagar por separado.

English meaning

We ask for a table outside. I order soup and still water. My friend does not eat meat and asks about a vegetarian dish. The server checks with the kitchen. At the end, we ask if we can pay separately.

Reference card

These phrases aim for broad usefulness. Use usted forms for the polite singular examples; tú forms for informal singular examples. Plural address varies: ustedes is used throughout Latin America and also formally in much of Spain; informal vosotros occurs in much of Spain. Billete/boleto, móvil/celular and camarero/mesero vary by place. The first term is not universally more correct.

Ask staff to confirm ingredients rather than assuming that omitting one ingredient makes a dish suitable. Use the language to request a check; the Collection does not certify ingredients or local customs.
